Many people date hoping to start a relationship. Others date for the benefits they get from being in a social environment. It really is a personal choice. If you look at the majority you will find they date for what I call relationship dating. That is they want to always be striving to take their relationships to the next level. In dating that is not always possible.
If your dating partner has recently been in a bad relationship it is going to take time for them to pass that and be ready to commit to a relationship with you. This is understandable and will continue to be a roadblock until all the issues in the past relationship have been dealt with and resolved.
Depending on the attitude of your partner, or even the attitude of yourself, relationship dating may be out of the question. What is your self esteem? What is their self esteem? A low opinion of oneself can get in the way of developing a relationship beyond that of dating as a friend.
Before you can have a relationship with someone you both need to define what it is you are looking for in this relationship. If you are in it for different reasons it will never work on a long term basis.
Relationship dating is challenging and is going to mean you both have to communicate. Only then will you be able to move forward to the next level whatever that may be.
